Description
Circa 900-1300 CE. Hohokam. Winchester Cave was excavated by the Amerind in 1941. Inside the dry cave were remarkably well preserved plant materials. This photograph shows a cluster of cane tubes, some wrapped with cotton string. No one really knows what these tubes may have been used for. Some have suggested ancient people may have stored ground up mineral paints in them. Others have suggested that they could have been used to store ground herbs. These cane tubes were found with nothing inside of them to give us a clue as to their purpose.
